About the Project

The project is an INTEL supported initiative with Global Environment Facility (GEF), Small Grants Programme (SGP)/United Nation Development Program (UNDP) through the network of Centre for Environment Education (CEE). CEE is the implementing partner in this initiative.

It proposes to create a carbon calculator with a difference – the Cool Calculator which will give users, mainly children and youth of today, of all age groups, gender, and socio-economic classes an idea of carbon emission reduction for every climate friendly action they take. The Cool Calculators will be available on the internet and will be simultaneously installed in 1200 schools and colleges through CEE and GEF SGP partners/offices.

These schools and colleges will sign a MoU with Centre for Environment Education (through CEE partners/offices) to document and verify the responsible actions of climate friendly activities by the youth in these schools and colleges.

Regular updating, verification and validation of the data will be done with every school and college.

Primary Audience

The youth of the schools and colleges will be the main target audience who will take the climate friendly actions that will be collected, assessed, verified and documented. All along gender balance will be maintained.

Expected Output:

The main output of the project will be to inculcate a sense of responsibility amongst the youth to take responsible actions and adopt a low carbon emitting lifestyle.

The project will also harness and convert all the good practices of the schools and colleges into quantified verified emissions reduction.

It will help in developing a more authentic database of good actions which can later be considered to be monetized for carbon trading. It will help in developing a more authentic database of good actions which can later be considered to be monetized for carbon trading.
